1. (U) Scope Note
1. (U) The Worldwide Threat to Shipping (WTS) message provides information on threats to merchant vessels, the shipping industry, and other maritime stakeholders worldwide in the last 30 days. This report is produced primarily to inform merchant mariners and naval forces.
2. (U) Warnings and Advisories:
A. (U) UKMTO WARNING NOTICE 001/OCT/2018: Category: Attack. Description: A merchant vessel was attacked in position: 00:49N - 050:53E at 1234Z on 16 October 2018, 341 nm east-southeast of Mogadishu, Somalia. Shots fired at merchant vessel; onboard armed security team returned fire. Skiff departed, no longer visible, and master confirms vessel is safe. 3. (U) Summary
A. (U) SINGAPORE STRAIT: On 18 August, three robbers armed with knives boarded an LPG tanker underway near position 01:14N - 103:57E, Singapore Strait.
B. (U) NIGERIA: On 17 October, five robbers attempted to board a product tanker anchored in the Lagos Secure Anchorage Area. UNCLASSIFIED UNCLASSIFIED 2
C. (U) GREECE: On 17 October, Greek Coast Guard personnel found a gas cylinder, connected to the underwater section of the hull of container ship EVER CONQUEST, at Keratsini Piraeus Container Terminal. The cylinder contained 53 kilograms of marijuana.
D. (U) SOMALIA: On 16 October, four armed pirates with AK-47s in a speed boat approached and fired on a bulk carrier underway east-southeast of Mogadishu.
E. (U) TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO: On 16 September, a dinghy and outboard motor were stolen from an unoccupied yacht anchored in Chaguaramas.
F. (U) TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO: On 15 September, seven yachts were boarded in the same evening in Chaguaramas. Dinghies and outboard motors, tools, and personal effects were reported stolen.
G. (U) COLOMBIA: On 15 October, the Colombian Navy seized one ton of cocaine in waters near Tumaco, Narino department.
H. (U) TUNISIA: On 15 October, customs officials at Tunis's La Goulette Nord Port seized 11,000 ecstasy tablets aboard a private truck that had arrived from the Italian city of Genoa.
I. (U) NIGERIA: On 14 September, two robbers boarded a product tanker anchored in the Lagos Secure Anchorage Area.
J. (U) INDIA: On 11 October, robbers boarded the Liberia-flagged tanker GAS ODYSSEY while anchored 11 nm off Tekra Light, Kandla.
K. (U) INDIA: On 10 October, robbers boarded the anchored LPG tanker BERLIAN EKUATOR in Deendayal Anchorage, Kandla.
L. (U) LIBYA: On 10 October, the self-declared Libyan National Army (LNA) seized two Italian fishing boats with 13 crew onboard 46 kilometers from Derna Port, eastern Libya.
M. (U) ENGLAND: On 4 October, authorities at the Immingham docks announced they had seized 35 kilograms of heroin and the same amount of cocaine, along with 250 kilograms of cannabis hidden in a shipping container containing fruit juice.
N. (U) CHINA: On 3 October, robbers boarded a bulk carrier anchored in Tianjin Anchorage.
