1. This week LH Roy Cadman delivered the last of over 1300 Maritime Security Briefings that he has given to commercial ship’s crews during his four years assigned to UKMTO Dubai. Roy is returning to live in the UK and we wish him the very best in the future.
2. A number of media reports released this week focus on the fire onboard a Panamanian registered oil tanker which took place off the coast of Sharjah. UAE authorities have attributed the cause of the fire to a maintenance error. UKMTO has not classified this incident as a maritime security event (see media article a).
3. The Royal Navy assumed command of the International Maritime Security Construct (IMSC). Cdre James Parkin RN will lead a multi-national team helping to maintain the free flow of trade and provide reassurance to commercial shipping in the Gulf region (media articles b and c).
