Four events has been reported to MDAT-GoG this week.
200°/137 Nm off Cotonou, BENIN
On the 16th May 2020 at 12:48 UTC, an MV (NAME WITHHELD) was reported heading East, in position 04°09′ N, 003°20′E (184°/136nm off Lagos, NIGERIA), after being hijacked on the 15th May, in position 04°09N 001°55E (200° / 137 Nm off Cotonou, BENIN).
MDAT-GOG comment: This event refers to ADVISORY 004/MAY/20 and ADVISORY 004/MAY/20 AMEND 1
206°/136 Nm off Brass, NIGERIA
On the 20th May 2020 at 16:59 UTC an MV (NAME WITHHELD) was boarded in position 02°15N, 005°09E (206°/134nm off Brass, NIGERIA). The Nigerian Navy immediately dispatched a vessel to assist. On the 21st May in the morning, the MV and her crew were reported safe. MDAT-GOG comment: This event refers to WARNING 001/MAY20 and WARNING 001/MAY20 UPDATE 1.
Opobo river offshore, NIGERIA
On the 20th May 2020, at 16:38 UTC, an MT (NAME WITHHELD) was attacked offshore Opobo, Opobo Nkoro LGA of Rivers State. The local pilot initiated an emergency sailing to Uta-Ewa in Ikot Abasi LGA of Akwa Ibom for safety. NNS JUBILEE was immediately deployed to intercept the attackers and provide security.
Berth Douala, CAMEROON
On the 17th May 2020 at night, an MV (NAME WITHHELD) reported a theft in position 04°03’N, 009°41’E (moored at berth Douala, CAMEROON). Crew found the padlock on the forecastle store broken and ship’s property was stolen. Crew was reported safe.
